INTRODUCTION TO UNIVERSITY OF DELHI

The University of Delhi is a national institution mentioned in the Constitution of India. It is indeed one among the very few institutions in the country, which draws students from all over the country. In 1922, the University of Delhi came into being as a unitary academic and residential university by an Act of Parliament. The unitary structure was eventually replaced by a federal structure. In 1952, the university was made a teaching and affiliating university. Now the university has an affiliate college even in Bhutan. The university currently has two campuses in North and South Delhi. The university together with the two campuses has over 61 colleges, 14 faculties, 20 specialized centres, and 86 posts graduate departments and ensure the academic and scientific preparation of graduates for different careers. The university makes postgraduate admissions while classes are held both in the university and different colleges. The university begins its admission session for most of the courses from the month of May. The Dean of students' welfare is the supervisor for most of the courses. The university has an extensive library with several constituent units.

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION TO UNDERGRADUATE COURSES IN UNIVERSITY OF DELHI

All those who have passed Senior School Examination (CI. XII) of the Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi or an examination recognized as equivalent thereto and wish to seek admission to B.A. (Pass)/BA (Vocational) / B.Com (Pass)/BA Sc (Gen) Mathematical Sciences, BA (Hons) including B.Sc (Hons) Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics and B.Com (Hons) courses will be considered for admission

AGE REQUIREMENT

No person shall be qualified for admission to the University in the first year of degree unless he/she is seventeen years of age. Provided that the Vice-Chancellor, may on the individual merits, relax the age limit upto a maximum period of one year,after a candidate has been provisionally admitted by the College and the application is made through .Principal of the College.

COURSES

1	Admission to B.A. (Pass) /B.A. Vocational studies)/ B.Com (Pass) / B.Sc. (Gen.) Mathematical Science: Minimum percentage of marks for eligibility for regular students is 40% in aggregate
2	Admission to B.A. (Hons) / B.Com (Hons): Minimum percentage of marks for admission is 45% in aggregate.
3	Admission to B.A. (Hons) in Mathematics and B.Sc (Hons Statistics: Minimum percentage of marks for admission is 50% marks in Mathematics and 45% marks in aggregate
4	Admission to B.Sc. (Hons) in Mathematics: Minimum percentage of marks is 50% marks in Mathematics and 45% marks in aggregate. Aggregate marks requirement will be determined on the basis of one language and three best elective subjects out of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Agriculture, Drawing, Engineering, Geography and Home Science.
5	Eligibility requirement for admission to Undergraduate course with vocational or technical stream are given below.
	(a)	Students who have passed the Senior School Certificate Examination of the Central Board of Secondary Examination, Delhi, under vocational/technical stream will be eligible for admission the B.A. (Pass)/B.Com (Pass) course.
	(b)	Courses other than B A (Pass) / B Com (Pass):
		(i)	For admission to course such as B.Com (Hons)/ B.Sc (Gen), three academic subjects and one vocational subject may be taken into account for purposes of determining eligibility.
		(ii)	For admission to vocational courses, two vocational subjects and two academic subjects will form the basic for admission, irrespective of the subjects, but the relationship within the main course must be ensured.
		(iii)	Academic and vocational courses must have the relationship with the main courses opted by the candidates.

ELIGIBILITY CERTIFICATE

The applications for admission to Undergraduate courses in the colleges in respect of candidate belonging to the examining bodies other than those specified in the booklet of the University entitled "Examinations and Degrees of other Universities and Educational Institutions recognised by the University of Delhi" shall not be entertained by the colleges without production of an eligibility certificate issued by the University, i.e., the equivalent certificate. If your university is not recognised by University of Delhi, you can get equivalent certificate from University of Delhi itself.

The University of Delhi has different procedures for admission in the various Post Graduate Courses. For Social Sciences the candidate must contact the Dean of Arts Faculty, at Arts Faculty Building and for science courses Dean of Faculty of Science at Science Faculty, New Administrative Block. All detailed information for these subjects can be had from both the faculties

For other courses viz.

Social Work, Sociology, Economics, Geography, Education, Library Science, Management Course (MBA), etc a candidate must contact the Head of Department of the respective courses in which he/she desires.

CORRESPONDENCE COURSES IN UNDER GRADUATE & POST GRADUATE DEGREES IN DELHI UNIVERSITY.

Any student having a minimum mark of passing class XII is eligible to seek admission in the undergraduate level. Correspondence courses has BA(P), BA(H), B.Corn, BA(Eng) at the under graduate level and MA(Pol.Sc), MA(Hist) at the Post Graduate level. A student of correspondence course can migrate to regular colleges after passing the 1st year examination.
